Today, October 1st, the People's Republic of China celebrates its 77th National Day. All of us at NXHD Manufacturing — from our Handan plant in Yongnian County to our Datong facility in Shanxi — would like to wish our customers, partners and friends around the world a happy holiday.
For our overseas customers, this is also the time of year when a very practical question comes up: what happens to my order during China's Golden Week? In this short post we will explain what the holiday means, how it affects production and shipping, and how to plan your purchases so that the break costs you as little time as possible.
What National Day means in China
National Day marks the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1st, 1949. It is the country's most important public holiday and is followed by the so-called Golden Week — several consecutive days off that many families use to travel, visit relatives, or simply rest after a busy season.
If you have ever tried to reach a Chinese supplier in early October and found the reply slower than usual, this is why. Factories pause production, government offices close, and logistics teams run on skeleton staff. In Beijing, the highlight of the season is the giant "Bless the Motherland" flower basket on Tiananmen Square — 18 metres tall, marked with the years 1949–2026 — while most industrial towns become noticeably quieter for a few days.
For a fastener manufacturer, the holiday sits right in the middle of the autumn production season, which is why it is worth planning around rather than being surprised by.
How the holiday affects production and lead times
During Golden Week, machines stop. That means:
- No new production starts during the holiday days themselves.
- Heat treatment, plating and other outsourced surface treatments also pause, because those suppliers close too.
- Trucks keep running at reduced capacity, but customs, forwarding agents and shipping lines operate with fewer staff, so document handling can take longer.
In practice, for a standard fastener order that would normally take three weeks, adding the holiday on top usually means a few extra days rather than an extra week — as long as the order was placed before the break. Orders that arrive during the holiday simply join the queue when production restarts, and the first days back are always the busiest as everyone clears the backlog.
What stays open at NXHD
Even when the plant floor goes quiet, our sales team does not disappear completely. During the holiday:
- Email inquiries are still collected and answered, usually within one working day instead of the same day.
- WhatsApp remains available for urgent questions, order status checks and shipping documents.
- Quotations can still be prepared, because pricing does not depend on the machines running.
- Production planning for orders received during the break is done in advance, so those orders are ready to start the moment the plant reopens.
What we cannot do during the holiday is produce, pack and ship new orders. Everything else — communication, quotations, documentation, planning — continues.
How to plan your orders around the holiday
If you are buying from China in the fourth quarter, a few simple habits will save you the most time:
- Send inquiries before the holiday, not during it. A quotation requested on September 30th is confirmed before the break; the same request sent on October 3rd waits in the queue.
- Confirm orders early if your delivery date is tight. The earlier an order is in the schedule, the earlier it is produced after reopening.
- Allow a small buffer in your planning. Adding roughly three to five working days around the holiday covers the production pause and the post-holiday backlog.
- Book sea freight with the backlog in mind. The first week after reopening is the busiest for trucking and forwarders, so container bookings move faster if arranged a little early.
- Keep communicating. If your project cannot wait, tell us the deadline in advance — priorities can be arranged when we know what is urgent.
None of this is complicated, and every experienced importer of Chinese fasteners does it automatically. For buyers who are newer to sourcing from China, the simple rule is: the holiday is predictable, so it should never turn into an emergency.
To all our customers and partners
We would like to use this occasion to say thank you. It has been a strong year for our company: our Handan plant continues to expand its capacity in standard fasteners, our Datong facility has grown its custom and CNC work, and more and more of our business now comes from customers who found us through this website.
Wherever you are reading this — whether you are a distributor in Europe, a manufacturer in Southeast Asia, or a contractor in the Middle East — we wish you a pleasant holiday season and a successful fourth quarter.
Happy 77th National Day from everyone at NXHD Manufacturing.
